PDG Provides Benefits Counseling Services

07-31-2011

Consumers and their families have a new resource to help them navigate the complexities of Federal, State, and Local regulations that determine their eligibility for a myriad of benefits. Helping consumers understand their benefits, their options, and the real impact of returning to work, eliminates a major barrier in the search for employment.

Nick Brooks and Amber Walker are now certified to provide a comprehensive, customized analysis on the impact of employment on benefits and information pertaining to work incentives as well as various resources available to consumers. Mr. Brooks and Ms. Walker have been certified by the Social Security Administration through the federally funded Virginia Commonwealth University - Work Incentive Planning and Assistance National Training Center.

Amber WalkerIn addition to the superb training our benefits counselors have received,  they both bring a wide variety of personal knowledge and experience to our program. Amber has worked in the field for three years, as a case manager, a psychiatric rehabilitation aide and most recently as PDG’s point of contact for the new, SOAR program, a program that navigates the Social Security application process more expediently for qualified consumers. Amber also has a bachelor’s of science degree in Sociology and master’s of Arts degree in Anthropology.

Nick has been with PDG for over a year, working in vocational rehabilitation and supported employment. Prior to working with us, Nick worked with the Social Security Administration and has a bachelor’s degree in public relations. At PDG we pride ourselves on providing unique, consumer-first services, and we could not be more pleased with the backgrounds and hands on experience our benefits counselors have, working directly with and for people with disabilites.
