Mental Health is a Community Project
Effective behavioral healthcare starts with each of us.
Community-based behavioral healthcare is one of the best advancements in mental health in the past century. It moved those with mental illness out of institutions and into everyday society. This transition allowed care to be more personalized and for those affected to maintain strong support networks. It also cuts down on stigma by raising awareness and promotes early diagnosis and treatment.
“Community-based treatment enables people with mental disorders to maintain family relationships, friendships and jobs while receiving treatment… This type of care is also associated with continuity of care, greater users’ satisfaction, increased adherence to treatment, better protection of human rights, and prevention of stigma.” – Community Support Services
PDG is just one of dozens of community-based mental health providers, offering integrated socialization opportunities, at-home and virtual visits, support network coordination, and – when consent is given – open conversations with all members of the mental health team. From our Day Program to our seasonal events and activities, PDG’s priority is integrated treatment and community-focused care.
By definition, then, our services require deep connections in the community.
This might include hospitals, counselors, employers, families, even local prisons and police personnel. The best treatment happens when all parts of society are committed to the same goal: support and recovery.
PDG is proud to have built strong roots in Maryland over the past 15+ years. Our partners make these critical behavioral health services possible. Each year, we receive countless donations to our annual crab feast, turkey trot, food drive, hygiene closet, and other drives and events designed to raise money for our consumers. The proceeds from these events directly support consumer services, including food, transportation, housing support, and personal care items.
We couldn’t do it without community partners like you. As they say, it takes a village, and you’re our village.
THANK YOU for your continued support and for helping us give 110% to Maryland mental health every day. Let’s end the stigma surrounding mental illness and work for a better future together.
