Fun in the Sun
Summer Fun at PDG
Our amazing Psychiatric Rehabilitation Program gets consumers reliable, educated Mental Health Care Coordinators who will meet with them regularly to help them connect with services and learn how to maintain their independence. As any mental health professional knows, though, mental stability and independence is so much more than a medication regimen and a great attendance record.
Good mental health is personal identity. It’s self-worth and social interaction. It’s getting together with like-minded people during the summer to have a good time.
PDG staff put on two huge picnics every year to celebrate our consumers and give them a space to connect with each other and enjoy the day.
Our first picnic this year served our Anne Arundel and Montgomery County consumers and took place in Patapsco State Park. The theme was the 60s and 70s and many consumers came out dressed the part. Every staff member dedicated their day to driving consumers, preparing food, and overseeing the many activities and crafts planned for the day – including dance contests, relay races, balance games, and a photo booth!
The next picnic in Druid Hill Park served our Baltimore City and County consumer with a #ThrowbackThursday theme. Handmade “Throwback” frames helped consumers and staff set off their great smiles! Once again, the staff worked hard all day to put on a fabulous picnic and several awesome activities, like rock painting, dancing, trivia, and much more!
Both events were a great success and the consumer left rave reviews. We’re so proud of everyone who attended and all those who worked so hard to make the day beautiful.
But let’s not forget!
In addition to the two events we put on for our consumers, PDG supports those with mental illness everywhere by committing to the NAMI Walk every year without fail. NAMI’s mission is to facilitate advocacy and education on behalf of individuals with mental illness. The NAMI Walk the biggest nationwide awareness and fundraising event supporting NAMI.
NAMI is fundamental for our changing modern view on mental illness and PDG is proud to support what they do for our consumers and others with mental illness across the country.
PDG has even more events coming up! For more details or to get involved, visit and like our Facebook page.
