Therapy and Counseling

PDG-T clinicians offer group, individual, family, marital, and other supportive therapy and counseling based on client needs.

Assessment
The initial appointment with PDG Therapeutics is typically an assessment. This appointment is designed to gather as much information as possible regarding the client in order to develop a plan for treatment, ensure a “goodness of fit” with the therapist, and determine a psychiatric diagnosis (as appropriate). This process allows the therapist to gain a deeper understanding of the client’s background, as well as his or her reasons for seeking treatment. Questions are asked in a gentle, non-judgmental way, with the understanding that the client may decline to answer questions.
Individual
Individual therapy involves a therapist and client working one-on-one to achieve therapy goals. Sessions are typically 45-60 minutes in length, and vary depending on the goals toward which the therapist and client are working. Goals may include a reduction in depression or anxiety symptoms, improvement in coping skills, improved anger management techniques, resolution of trauma or grief, and much more.
Group
Group therapy takes place with one or two therapists and anywhere from three to twelve clients. Groups typically focus on areas of learning or life challenges that the group members have in common. Group topics may include grief, depression, anxiety, parenting, and more.
Family
Family therapy is designed to improve the functioning of a family as a whole. Family therapy includes one therapist and all members of the immediate family, including parents, children, and any other family members working toward improving family functioning. Typical areas of improvement include communication, boundaries, parenting, and conflict resolution.
Marital
Marital or couple’s counseling serves to improve communication, resolve barriers, explore and resolve resentment or lingering anger, and generally improve the health of a romantic relationship. Marital counseling includes one therapist and the two individuals in the relationship.
Parenting
In addition to marital and family counseling, PDG Therapeutics offers group and individual counseling sessions geared specifically toward improving parenting skills. Parenting is one of the biggest challenges in life and expert guidance can be beneficial, whether the child is a toddler or a teenager.
